'Magic Moments', the Community Play

After months of rehearsal and seven drafts, the Ilmington Jubilee Play opened on 30 May 2012 for a four night run.

With a cast of 42 aged from three months to eighty – as well as Charlie the dog- and a production crew of 26 - Magic Moments encompassed a wealth of talent from the village who became ‘The Company’.

The tale of life in Ilmington during the 1950s, as seen through the eyes of Elsie looking back on her younger days, weaves from allotment to front room, from the school to village shop, the hills to the dance floor of the village hall, where the play is being performed.

Based on the oral histories gathered for this project, the play encapsulated many true stories and involves some real characters who lived in the village at that time.

The performance also featured a live band and familiar popular music and radio theme tunes of the time.
